Medical Attendant Job Description and Expectations
Term: Permanent, part-time

Salary: $12.07 hourly for 40 hours per week, per collective agreement

Skill requirements
Education:
Completion of high school, some college, CEGEP, vocational or technical training
Credentials:
St. John's Ambulance First Aid Certificate
Canadian Red Cross First Aid Certificate
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
Emergency First Response Course
Driver's Licence
Experience:
Experience is an asset.
You must have EFR/MFR certification at minimum to apply.

TASK-SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS
The position of Medical Attendant requires that the attendant carry out specific duties and responsibilities relevant to the position.
These duties include, but are not limited to:
Work Assignments
- Reporting for duty, on time, for all shifts as scheduled or as arranged
- Submitting a written request for shift changes
- Reporting inability to report for duty due to illness, emergency etc, as soon as possible
- Completing all work assignments that are dispatched within the shift or on-call period.
- Remaining on duty until specifically released from duty from dispatch.
Patient Care
- Providing quality patient care, within level of training in accordance to policy and procedures.
- Providing safe patient transportation and handling at all times
- Ensuring MT# is obtained and documented before patient transport.
Adhering to Uniform
- Wearing designated uniform as required
- Maintaining the uniform in appropriate condition
- No wearing of hats or caps or sunglasses while in a facility
- Proper grooming and hygienic practices
Documentation
- Ensuring complete documentation on all Call Sheets and VEL’s.
- Document all incidents and occurrences
- Documenting daily vehicle run logs and vehicle inspections
- Documenting use of supplies/equipment, forms, in order to ensure prompt re-stock.
Equipment Use and Maintenance
- Operating equipment in a safe manner consistent with training and procedures
- Immediately reporting equipment malfunctions or damages to a supervisor.
- Cleaning of durable equipment, as per schedule, used in course of their duties.
Vehicle Use and Maintenance
- Operating OPT vehicle in a safe and appropriate manner at all times.
- Inspecting vehicles at beginning and end of shift in accordance with specific checklist
- Cleaning of interior of vehicle during and after each shift
- Additional cleaning duties as assigned
- Fuelling of Vehicle after each shift
- Reporting and documenting incidents and damages
Communication
- Communicating with OPT dispatch when arriving and departing from pick up locations and destinations
- Communicating with OPT dispatch when you have completed and cleared a call
- Communicating in a professional manner, with other health care providers, patients, and the public at large
- Ensuring that OPT dispatch is aware of crew's whereabouts and status at all times
- Communicating in a respectful manner to OPT supervisors and co-workers.
