Call Takers and Dispatchers
Term: Permanent, part-time

Job Description Summary
The Medical Transportation Dispatcher position is a vital role within the company that involves receiving non-emergency requests for medical transportation, determining the appropriate equipment, staff , resources, response times; while maintaining close contact with field units to monitor response and needed requirements.
It requires a considerable degree of initiative and independent judgment. The work may be done separately or in conjunction with other call takers and dispatchers; dispatchers may assist in training, teaching and basic operational equipment management.
The Medical Transportation Dispatcher’s position requires fixed and rotating shift assignments and overtime in accordance with maintaining a fully operational 24 hour facility.
The Medical Transportation Dispatcher’s coordinates transportation activities and communicates information to internal and external customers.
Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Skill in operating a variety of communications equipment effectively;
- Skill in reading and interpreting maps to determine locations and jurisdictional boundaries
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Skill in observing situations analytically and objectively and relaying details accurately
- Skill in communicating using two-way radio and telephone equipment;
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely;
- Work requires the ability to follow and provide instructions to the public generally equivalent to a high school education.
- Emergency Services Communication course is an asset
- Working knowledge of Windows applications, Windows 2003 operating system, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software, Server environment, Internet and Email.
- Knowledge of operating a 2-way / paging communication system
- Knowledge of operating multi-line telephone systems (Meridian)
Training:
Initial training consists of a 2 day orientation class, a four-week on-the-job training
- Weeks one and two a preceptor is assigned
- Weeks three and four as a workgroup trainee.
Continuing Education:
- Mandatory dispatch meetings
- Must keep all certifications current
- Attendance for all required company training
- Participation in all required drills
Work Schedule and Availability:
Shifts consist of 8, 10 and 12 hour shifts. Only part-time staff is required to provide availability sheets. All full-time staff will be scheduled accordingly to maintain a 24 hour dispatch department. |
