People

“Inspired every day by the people we care for.”

Richard (Rick) VanKleef
President, Ontario Patient Transfer/Travois Medical Transfer

As President and founder of Ontario Patient Transfer, one of Ontario’s largest and longest-operating medical transportation companies, Rick has more than 30 years of experience to offer in the private transportation industry.

This experience was what allowed OPT to expand our service area into the Ottawa Region in March 2004, and to become a shareholder in other transportation businesses — primarily Hamilton Cab, Yellow Cab, Symphony Limousine and Veterans Transportation (a DARTS subcontractor for ambulatory transportation since 1989).

These transportation companies provide more than 100,000 stretcher transports and two million taxi rides and parcel deliveries annually, as well as scheduled shuttle services. We serve 1000 ambulatory DARTS clients daily, 1000 schoolchildren daily, 100 Transcab passengers in the City of Hamilton, WSIB clients, and clients in need of wheelchair-accessible facilities — plus many others.

Rick has a degree in Business Administration and Computer Science, and is also a founding member and current vice-president of the Medical Transportation Association of Ontario.

Philip S. Coburn
General Manager, Ontario Patient Transfer

Philip is located at the company’s head office in Hamilton, and is directly responsible for all daily operations. As the General Manager of Ontario Patient Transfer, Philip is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all divisions, including the human resources department. His duties also include liaising with contract administrators and the policies & procedures administrator, and overseeing all health & safety programs.

Prior to joining OPT, Philip was the General Manager and CEO for the Disabled & Aged Regional Transit System (DARTS, Hamilton) for more than 25 years. Philip has twenty years of experience in progressively responsible management roles, and extensive experience in the development and implementation of policies and programs focusing on both customer service and operational design.

Jackie McCluskey
Financial Controller, Ontario Patient Transfer

Jackie McCluskey has been with OPT since we opened our doors in 1997.

Jackie has owned her own accounting business for more than 24 years, and over the last 13 years, she has worked hand-in-hand with OPT to develop an accounting system, eventually taking on the formal title of Financial Controller.

Jackie’s experience and knowledge of accounting, and her hands-on training capabilities have allowed for a smooth transition over the years during the rapid growth of OPT. She specializes in identifying cost-cutting opportunities, generating savings that can be passed along to our customers.

With her knowledge, skills and loyalty to OPT, we are confident that Jackie will assist in ensuring stability and success as OPT continues to grow within the existing fiscal infrastructure she has developed. Her leadership qualities and her ability to work as part of a strong team are a tremendous contribution to what we do at OPT.
